CAN I MAKE THIS CAKE SMALLER?

You absolutely can make this sheet cake smaller! Cut the recipe in half (it's already done for you in with my red velvet cupcakes ) and bake in an 8" or 9" square baking pan. Bake time will be about 28-32 minutes.

CAN I LEAVE OUT THE RED FOOD COLORING?

You can omit the red coloring if you don't want to use it. Your cake will just be a light brown color but still taste exactly the same!

WHAT IS THE BEST COCOA FOR RED VELVET CAKE?

The best cocoa powder to use for red velvet cake is unsweetened cocoa powder. Do not use Dutch processed or special dark cocoa powder as the chemistry of these cocoas are different from unsweetened and will alter the results as well as the color of the cake.
