This spooky Halloween sangria is made with seasonal fruit, garnished with a colorful sugar rim, and is the perfect addition to your Halloween party spread.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and water.
Bring to a boil then immediately turn the heat down to low and simmer until all of the sugar is dissolved (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and allow to cool.
SANGRIA
Once the simple syrup has cooled, slice one orange and one lime and add the slices to the bottom of a large glass pitcher. Muddle the fruit slices with a muddler or wooden spoon.
Juice the remaining oranges and lime and add the juice to the pitcher, along with the simple syrup, red wine, and blackberry brandy. Stir to combine. If you want a truly black or dark purple sangria, you can add food coloring to the pitcher at this point.
Allow sangria to chill in the fridge minimum of 2 hours (the longer the better). Add frozen grapes, if using, to individual glasses right before serving. Serve chilled2 with a sugared rim (I used chunky purple sugar but brown sugar will work just fine, too).
Notes
Red wine: be sure to use a good, quality red wine. Avoid using a very expensive one, since you will be adding to it, but choose one that you enjoy drinking by the glass. Deep and fruity vs super dry is ideal for sangria.
To serve sparkling: right before serving, top off your pitcher with sparkling water, seltzer, club soda, or ginger ale.
