As far as the extra bread, I'd just freeze it and then thaw it at room temperature before you need to use it.

This is one of my favorite recipes of all time! My MIL requests French toast casserole every holiday season, and always oohs and ahhs over how yummy it is. I agree with her that it's AWESOME and I make it often since it's such an easy dish.

Quick question: I put out too much bread to get stale for my Thanksgiving stuffing. Do you think the extra bread will hold until December 18 (about 3 weeks)? I don't want it to go to waste, so if it won't then I'll use it ASAP.

This recipe looks amazing and will be perfect for the morning after Thanksgiving company. I have a cup of leftover buttermilk and I was wondering if you thought that would work in this recipe (I know you wrote any milk), or if you thought it might change the flavor or texture).

Hi, Vivian-- the inside can be gooey, but it shouldn't be underdone. There's a difference, and that's sometimes just the nature of a French toast casserole UNLESS your bread wasn't stale enough. You can always bake it longer next time-- covering the top will help a lot with keeping it from burning or drying out.

Mine turned out a but gooey inside. Not sure why. I baked it for 60 minutes and then covered it so the top wouldn’t burn and baked another 12 but still the middle was gooey. What did I do wrong?
