In reply to Sharon. Hi, Sharon-- "tangy" lemon flavor will only come from real lemon juice and lemon zest. Lemon extract will bring more of a sweet lemon flavor. Thanks for trying the recipe!

I was hoping for more tangy lemon taste (yes, I did add a teaspoon of lemon extract to the recipe).
I also achieved more crackle by rolling the dough balls in sugar, then in powdered sugar, and baking them at 375° for 11-12min.

Love love love these cookies! Have been a making these for several years and follow recipe exactly.
The lemon flavor combined with the crackle make them a beautiful addition to my Christmas cookie trays.
Everyone loves these and I receive many compliments. If you are looking for the perfect lemon cookie, this is it!
Very simple to make and that lemony flavor, yum!

Cookies spread too much though flavor is very good. Room temp butter was used. Maybe increasing the amount of flour would help. Will try that next time.

I made these for the first time this past Christmas. They ended up being everyone’s favorite. I did add extra lemon juice and some lemon extract, they came out great.
