I made this for Christmas Eve. The difference I found was the beans are blanched first. I prepped that and the roux the day prior. Added extra broth because it thickened overnight. combined when ready to bake and it was delicious! I added a little Worstershire out of habit…… Crunchy, creamy and salty to satisfy all the cravings! I am using this again!

We made a delicious green bean casserole with this recipe! I really appreciated the vegetarian modifications and that we were able to make it without mushrooms. It was my first time making a roux but the instructions were very easily to follow and everything came out perfectly.

In reply to Shannon. Hi, Shannon-- that would depend on if they were frozen raw or cooked/blanched. If they are very green, it's likely they are already blanched and you could skip that step.

I made this for the first time last Thanksgiving. Green bean casserole has always been my favorite Thanksgiving food. My husband was not a fan of my grandma’s recipe and after years of trying different variations, he likes yours! (I add bacon and sliced water chestnuts to this, because that’s how my granny did it). Thanks for sharing! So yummy!

In reply to Patty Kersten. Hi, Patty-- if you want to make this ahead and freeze it, I suggest going through all of the steps up until baking and leave off the topping. Thaw overnight, then add topping and proceed with the recipe.
