Hi, Catherine– do you mean like a chocolate cake base with strawberries in it? I’m sure it can, though I’d recommend a thicker batter than any of the chocolate cake recipes I have. Mine are all pretty thin, since they’re made with oil and not butter. But if you find a thicker chocolate cake recipe that has a batter that could withstand the weight and moisture of the strawberries, then go for it. I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending one without testing it first!

Thank you, I did see about putting it in the refrigerator! I was curious about making it a week early and freezing it (just the cake, not the frosting). I do this often with cakes but I’ve never tried with a cake that has fresh fruit. Thank you for your reply!

This cake is wonderful!! I am NOT a baker, but my 3 year old repeatedly asked for a strawberry cake for her birthday and I had to deliver. I followed the recipe exactly as you wrote it with all the helpful details and it came out perfect, 10/10, truly would not change a thing. My daughter loved it and friends and family were so impressed. Will be coming back to this one. Thank you!
